    Hi
I'm looking to close my sky account. I have been reading this forum and many similar forums with the last few months and have come no closer to figuring out whats the most suitable box for me? I would like (if possible) to have all the features of my sky+ box.
Also can you purchase cards (legally + cheaply) that can get sports and movies?
Will I need to be connected to the internet for certain type boxes?

Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

    Dave

Which model of Humax are you referring to?

Humax do very good Freesat+ receivers and are a good family friendly replacement for Sky+ with built-in HDD, series link, 7 day epg etc but without the Irish channels or access to any premium movies or sport channels. They will not work with any pay TV service.

I'm not sure how these work for multi-sat reception but if you're going that route a FTA satellite receiver with diseqc switches and multi LNBs might be the better option but they won't have the Sky+ features you require.

    thanks for that information
i wont be getting the humax based on the fact that it doesnt have the pay tv service on it.

I want to concentrate on buying a receiver firstly, then on upgrading my dish and LNB's at a latter stage.
I have been scouring these forums since about 5 hours ago,(i love reading them actually) but I've come no closer to seeing what suits me.
the ferguson ariva has only 1 tuner,
    vu+duo is expensive,
an inexpensive box that can record 2 channels like the sky box and has a hard drive installed and that can take a pay card for future subs.

Don't think you'll get an inexpensive receiver that meets your requirements.

I use a Humax iCord with twin-tuners, slots for pay TV modules, built-in HDD, diseqc. No 7 day guide, digital text or auto channel updates etc. Again not cheap. http://www.humaxdigital.com/me/products/product.php?gid=232

Technomate also do a similar range of twin-tuner boxes with built-HDD and pay TV slots http://www.technomate.com/categories/Products/Satellite-%26-Terrestrial/Satellite-Receivers/HD/

In general you can purchase them legally but not cheaply.

If your feeling confident and dont mind having a play around with setting a box up, The Amiko Ailen and Golden Media spark triple is under 200€. Theres a massive thread in the terrestrial forum. Has 3 tuners in it, does, PVR, Media player, EPG etc etc.

Then once you are set up, A sub card to NC+ (Poland) is good value. circular 300€ for 18 months, will get you a decent sub with movies and sport.
