Cost of Chimney Removal

Before I decide to go ahead with it, i want to get a rough idea of the price it will cost me to remove a chimney all the way up to the stack.

The chimney is in the middle of the house so no worries with party walls etc. but if i remove it i will gain space in 2 rooms downstairs and 2 rooms upstairs- let alone the additional attic space i will gain!

I will be employing skilled builders to remove it - If i do go ahead with the removal, so don;t need any advice re construction etc...

Any one out there can tell me roughly what price range i am looking at?? Obviously whether the walls are load bearing near the chimney will have an impact but i just want a rough idea.

    Thks :)

The cost of removing the chimney stack itself would be in the 2-3k bracket. The biggest issue is if any structural steelwork is required in order to brace the building when its removed or to carry floors etc.

Have chimney in a bedroom that I would like removed as it is not in use but slightly differant though. It's standard chimney, where wall extends out but had idea that if it was removed wall could be brought back in line and could get larger wardrobes fitted, you still looking at 2-3 k mark

again it depends of structural steel requirements. Most floors and roofs are tied around chimneys so by removing them you generally need to install steelwork and this is where the main cost lies.

i have two large chimney breasts in the sitting room and both and running up through the bedrooms. They come out on different chimneys but both are shared with the neighbour.. I'm guessing theres no way to remove these unless he was willing to get rid of his?

No it it a bungalow house, but actually now when you say that I forgot there's a fireplace in bedroom next door which uses same chimney which we just blocked up cause wasn't in use but wall didn't extend out in opposing bedroom, just uses up space in bedroom which could be used for storage space. it's an old house. Thanks though, didn't think of fireplace in other room.

    Hi,

I am interested in your post because I'm considering getting the exact same job done. I also have the chimney running through the centre of the house and want to get it removed. I will let you know how I get on investigating this job. I hope if you will also tell me how you get on.

    Thanks,

    Steve.

we had similar job in crumlin area i had seen one house they did during renovation they removed the chimney breast from ground floor and first floor and placed beam across in attic to support the extra weight of chimney block up there. when i asked for quote for myself from different builders they told me the skip will alone cot 600 euros for that much rouble and cost of the labour will be 3500-4000, they have to place some kind of steel in the attic to support the chimney remains on the roof. as u cannot alter
