Need help identifying this part

The car is a Mk 4 Golf. I want to replace the leather gaiter on the gear stick. I can't remove the leather gaiter on the gear stick becuase there is a ring of some sort holding the gear knob in place. Does anyone know what this is called? And where could I get one? It looks as if ill have to snap it off the get the gear off.

I've attached a photo and for clarity it's a gold coloured ring in the photo.

I tried going at it with a screwdriver to loosen it off but I definitely need to snap it off.

Any ideas on what its called?

That's a crimp hose clamp.

If you're reeeeeally careful, you can prize them open and reuse them, but really, they're a single-use item.
Most motor factors should carry them, and they can be closed with a wire snips if you're careful.
Otherwise, cut it off and replace with a suitable jubilee clip.

Its just a steel tie strap, cut it off to remove it

use a cable tie to put it back on

just cut it off it only holds gater up aroung gear knob and gear know down a good strong cable tie will do the same job
