Slicks for MTB

I'll be using my mountain bike for commuting over the next few months until I get a new winter bike together.

I was considering switching over the existing tyres for something less knobbly. After looking through CRC's website, I am none the wiser!

Can anyone suggest a tyre based on experience?

    Thanks

I always stick with Specialized using from 1" , 1.25" & 1.5" however it depends on the wheelset you are using. I am lucky as my wheelset allows 1-2.1 .

Here is what I use at present:

    1. Specialized All Condition 26 x 1.0
    2. Specialized Fatboy 26 x 1.25
    3. Specialized Nimbus Armadillo Elite 26 x 1.5

I might sell 2 & 3 as the All Condition are fine for my current cycle route.

To be honest the Nimbus are great as they offer much more puncture protection.

    Good luck with your choice.

Another option: I've used Continental Sport Contact (26 x 1.3) for a few years with no problems. I found the puncture resistance good and grip was good too although they don't mix well with wet manhole covers and the like (but then I don't think any tyre does). They are available with a reflective strip around each side of the tyre, which I considered useful too - that version is called Sport Contact Reflex.

    Hey djbproductions,

If I get you right, you might sell the Armadillos. I'd be interested if they are in good condition.

I have Schwalbe City Jets myself, 26 x 1.5, and I find them quite good. They feel a lot narrower than what I would have cycled on before (just standard mountain-bike-type tyres that seem to be fitted on most cheper bikes).
I have been a bit tentative on them but am starting to test them out a bit more now (primarily by going downhill faster!) and I need not have worried.
They seem to be a lot more secure and confident on slick roads than I am!

I've regular Armadillo 26 x 1.5 for a few years. I haven't used another slicks so can't compare them with anything. Have had about 3 punctures in that time, all were shards of glass, that I think were stuck in the tread then punched through the tyre when I hit a pothole or similar. I pick out stones and debris from the thread now and then. Probably a slick without any tread wouldn't pick up as much stuff. Not really showing any wear in that time. Happy enough with them really.
