Importing from UK, or specialist site/dealer

Hi all. Am looking to upgrade my family car in the next year. So I have plenty of time to look for where to get it. Thinking about a Ford S-Max.

Thinking of a second hand car from about 2010 or newer, thinking of going for a car from 2010 for better value, higher spec and better maintained..

So the options are to buy from a dealer (preferably who has imported models), go to the UK in person, or else use one of the specialist importers that are online.

I'm not too keen on traveling, I know nothing about cars really. My preference would be to buy from somewhere reliable here.

There are a few sites that seem to specialise in this, one I came across here: http://www.thecarpeople.ie/

Has anyone any experience in using one of those sites, or any suggestions on where to go for imported cars? I have read through a lot of the Importing from the UK thread, I'd prefer to pay a little more than if I went in person, and see what I can get in added value by way of Warranty etc.

Westlink Car Sales in Galway City specialise in UK car sales. If you give them tour criteria (spec, engine size, whatever) they will source the car in the UK. Its like buying a brand new car, and they're fairly decent with their prices too. Worth a look, hope this helps :)

Nearly every used car dealer in the country is selling UK imports these days, it shouldn't be too hard to find something suitable. Just make sure to do your background checks before buying as there is some with colourful histories being sold too especially if they appear too cheap.

Don't get hung up on a UK car either, you might get the best value from either an import or a local car.

First bit of advice - travel!
Second bit of advice - have AA do the check on a car of your choosing
Third bit - buy it on the recommendation of AA (they detail every little thing about the car - its such good value for money)
