Laptop Hard Drive Dead

Ok so i do the odd bit of pc/laptop servicing for family and friends and have gotten in a laptop with a broken screen. As usualy i took the hard drive out and connected it to my own pc to check if it was still in working order but instead it made a slow rubbing noise and was not found. I am no techie but to me it sounds like the hard drive is done and dusted. I plan on purchasing her a replacement HDD but for her old one we need to recover the data off it. Like most people who have little time for computers she failed to back up the HDD so i need to recover it.
Assuming it is dead and i was wondering if anyone knew of a good place in Ireland or England that specialised it recovering data from a dead HDD? So far i found one in England and many in America but really do not want to be shipping it around the world if there is a place in Ireland i could use.
    Any help is appreciated.
