Hi, new to the forum and have a question re apprenticeships.

A family member recently took an apprenticeship offer, he gave up his job to take the apprenticeship as it was a trade he wanted to get involved in. Now, the apprenticeship wasn't via fas. He gave up his job and started work about two weeks ago. Now this family member has dyslexia and not only discussed it at interview but also put it on his cv. Went in to work today and was informed that boss could not read his writing and so he was fired on the spot. Is there anything that we can do here, any way we can make an official complaint. I am terribly frustrated for him, he has now lost his job and the apprenticeship but was honest about everything from the very beginning - he's a young lad started off a career or so he thought.

If the apprenticeship wasn't through FAS then it wasn't going to be recognised. What was the apprenticeship in?

So when it was discussed, what was agreed?

I wasn't aware that poor writing was a characteristic of dyslexia - but I'm no epxert in the area.

If it is, then he could make a complaint on the baiss of disability discrimination.

If not, then I'm not sure he's got any come-back at all.

BTW, if it wasn't registerd thru FAS, then i don't believe it was a real apprenticeship at all. Quite likely that he was being taken for a ride, and in the long term he may be better off out of there sooner than later.
