Good evening everybody my name is Tim and despite my inability to speak or read well in public Ben has chosen me to be his best man today. Ben I want to thank you for asking me to be your best man it’s truly an honor. I would also like to thank the parents for all their help in making this day possible. Holly’s parents (names) obvious you already know this otherwise we wouldn’t be here today but I can reinsure you your daughter is in good hands Ben will take very good care of Holly. Ben’s parents Rita and Merlin it goes without saying you both did an excellent job raising him. Ben is one of the best people I know. I would also like to give Rita and Merlin a special thanks for their friendship to my family and I over the years. Well, what can I tell you about the groom? He’s handsome, athletic, and is a stylish dresser. Sorry wrong wedding. Seriously though I’ve known Ben as long as can remember and during that time we have been close friends and partners in crime on numerous occasions. We’ve had some excellent times together over the years, and I’m sure we’ll have more in the future. I value my friendship with Ben he has always been there for me and I look forward to having the same great friendship with his new bride Holly. It’s been an honor and a privilege being your best man today and you have also given me another friend in Holly. I look forward to being a part of your lives and having you both a part of my life for many years to come. Have been married for 13 years myself now, I know how wonderful it is to have a special bond with someone, and I’m so happy that Ben and Holly have found that bond with each other. If I could have everyone please raise your glasses in a toast to Ben and Holly. I speak for everybody here when I say I wish you both all the happiness in the world for your future life together. Cheers!

Wouldit not be expected to include one or two funny stories about said groom?

Short, sweet and to the point. I think it's good.

No need at all to include funny stories- especially if you're not a natural public speaker. Most people find those "funny stories" quite boring and cringey- they're funny to the best man and groom maybe, but very "I guess you had to be there" for everyone else. One thing I would include also is a mention of how well the bride and bridesmaids look. It's a bit cheesy yeah but it's a nice tradition to acknowledge the big effort they go to the morning of the wedding!

Just take your time, bring your notes, speak slowly (if it's a big room and you're using a mic especially take your time) and look around the room and enjoy it!

I hope you dont mind but just to let you know it should be "reassure" not "reinsure".
I think it's a lovely speech by the way :)
Best of luck on the day!

No need at all to be nervous, everyone there appreciates it's a tough job and will be rooting for you!

You're definitely taking the right approach with the type of speech you have there if you're nervous, no need for a big long spiel with random stories-you've everything covered so you'll do a great job. Enjoy it!

Well, he might not want to put them online, as people might potentially identify the groom.

You also can't go wrong with saying how amazing the bride and bridesmaids look!

And I don't think there is any real need for cringey stories about the groom, it's a lovely heartfelt short speech, perfect.

Love the way you named the Brides oul lad 'Merlin' :D

Great speech. Covers all the bases and comes across as very genuine.

Its really lovely, well done! Don't forget to mention the bridesmaids and bride is all! It's never a prob to have notes/cues (most speakers at weddings that I've been to have had notes), and if you're nervous maybe look straight at the people you're talking about or if thats a bit intimidating or not possible, pick one or two spots on the wall just above the audiences heads and talk to them. People are going to be so supportive and in great form so try not to worry.

please plan some pauses into your speech. give yourself a second to look around the room and let people absorb what you're saying. So first of all, paragraph the speech into your various points..then practise in front of the mirror with pauses at the end of those paragraphs and then work in some pauses around the points within the paragraphs.

the main things to being a good speaker are pauses, pace, inflection and tone. Your content is just the start and you've done well on that front. Best of luck!

You think I should take out the wrong wedding line? If nobody laughs that would suck.
