Mechanic for 2nd hand car inspection - Dublin area

    Saw a Mazda I might be interested in, looking for the number of a good mechanic who I could hire for an hour or so to give it a good inspection.

    Might well be, but I think I got a quote from them before and it was something like €300. imho thats far too much, I would like to think a local mechanic would do it for less.

    Got a quote of €269 from the AA. Bit pricey.

    €20 off if you can get the car to their inspection place in Dublin. Its apparently a 3hr inspection so sounds like what I would like, but price putting me off.

    It's pricey but if you're intending to buy a car for 20K plus, or even less than that, it's money well spent.

    It's all relative really.

    As already said a 20k car, 269 is very reasonable for a through inspection which will show up any faults or possible faults.

    A 2k car wouldn't be worth your while.

    What exactly do the AA check? Can they run any checks/tests that someone else might not be able to do?

    This is what their email says they do:

    A detailed examination of the vehicle, including a full mechanical and electrical check

    - Checking evidence of major accident damage and / or repairs

    - Recording of the VIN and chassis numbers

    - An extended road test

    - A full under-body inspection to ascertain any structural problems or accident damage


    Following completion of the inspection, our engineer will produce you with a detailed report outlining their findings
