    Hi

Was out yesterday and got caught in the mother of all downpours and cycled through some horrendous puddles.

Broke for coffee and when back up and going - all I could hear was creaking from the bike as if it was under pressure somewhere. No matter what gear I was in ..I could hear it!! It sounder from the pedal area... but that was just a guess!

It got so bad that as I had a quick chat from a fellow cyclist I caught up with - he queried that strange noise and asked if my bike was about to crack in 2!

I keep a 'mean machine' and haven't got around to put bike on work stand yet to investigate - but am throwing it out there for ideas! So.... any ideas?

I would suspect that you've washed away grease either from the bottom bracket area, or more likely from the wheel bearings.

Take off the wheels and spin them on their axles. Noisy? Then you need to get the bearings re-greased.

    Thanks Dark....

Is that a DIY job.. or a LBS job???

I'm only guessing at this stage! Anything can cause a noise, we have to isolate it first.

If I am right, it's not a pure easy job and requires a few bike specific tools, but if you're brave enough it can be done. I'd bring it to an LBS though to get it done right and because it's not an expensive fix. I had new bearings put on my commuter bike's wheels earlier this year for about 10 quid IIRC, although I shop there regularly.
