Hi can anyone tell me if I sell my Irish registered car to someone in NI will they have to MOT it immediately? It just passed the NCT for two years and the buyer is wondering if she can wait till the two years is up before she MOTs it. Also is registering it in NI expensive?

re-registering it is cheap in the UK, just a small fee around £20 i think. It will need a UKNI MoT before it can be re-reg'd and this will need to be doen (strictly) before you can sell it. Obviously a buyer could say they bought it in the republic....

I'm in the republic so it will sold without mot. They haven't rung back though so I don't think it'll matter. ;')

UK MoT is fairly simple. For example, i'v overstayed my trip to Dublin by a fortnight and MoT expired Friday. rang this morning to a garage in Holyhead I found on tinternet and booked in for 10 mins after I get off the ferry tomorrow. There are 17 test centres in NI so I wouldn't have thought it would take that long to get a booking.

Just like an MOT isn't valid here an NCT has no validity in the UK. A lot of UK garages will but a fresh MOT on a sales car, if you import it to Ireland it'll still need to be NCT'd.

The MOT isn't a big issue, getting an Irish registered car onto UK/NI plates is. But that's up to the buyer to sort out not the seller.
