golf bad gearbox

whats the story with the golfs 1.9 tdi mk5 gearboxes giving trouble, mates 2005 blew up on him and he cant get one anywhere, now been told they give tons of trouble and can give €1000 for a secondhand gearbox and thats a 5 speed gearbox too

I would suspect that a lot of golfs aren't standard hp anymore so gearboxes are in demand

Would you not get it reconditioned instead? The one you get mightnt be much better

1k is madness, anyonw willing to pay that needs there head examined, the going rate is 500 for them, they are the same as the caddy, Octavia, Passat, jetta, leon aswell so that might help the search. just make sure its from a 1.9tdi not a 2.0 or sdi

Input shaft bearings are the weak point in the 02M gearboxes.
They can be easily rebuilt, probably a better option too. 1K for a used gearbox is just insane.
Try eBay, they are going for around 350£ in uk
