The other night I did a shoot we had

    2 cannon 600ds and a nikon d3100

The two cannons used about 40gb of data for the two hour shoot and the nikon only used about 20 for the two hours. Do nikons have better compression rates or do i just have the wrong kinda file type selected?

The Canon does an average bit rate of about 45 mbits and the Nikon does about 22 mbits. So the Canons are recording higher quality video which takes up more space. They both use the same h.264 to compress the video.
