Tax trainee advice

Hey all I'm just looking for some advice or words of wisdom.

I just accepted an offer at a mid-tier firm as a tax trainee and will be studying towards the AITI exams.

I due to start mid-August and am wondering if their is anything I should do to make sure I hit the ground running? I am aware that September/October is busy season for tax departments so I want to as prepared as possible.

I'm strongly considering refreshing my Excel skills as I never used Excel in college and so I taught myself the basics in the past. Is there anything else I should consider?

Any comments or advice is welcome. Esp from anyone who went down the tax route. I am still buzzing that I got the position and am eager to get stuck in!

    Cheers
