Im here sitting down experimenting with Ableton and such ,making little tunes and what not and I began to feel that the music I make and the music these days just has no meaning, a few clicks and you've generated a a brand new song ,there is no talent needed with music producing programs these days and it hides all the real talent. Listening to Aphex twin for inspriation and realising that all these instruments in Ableton were INSPIRED BY Aphex. I find it hard to find anything unique about my songs.you can make remixes ,beats etc. but really your autotuning someone else work....at least thats how I feel, how do you guys feel about this?

can't agree with that. Sure if you sit down and select a bunch of presets from Massive or Sylenth then your stuff will sound generic. Put the time into working your own patches and tweaking individual sounds as well as programming interesting percussion lines and you'll come with something more unique.

yeah ,your right I suppose. I dont really know how to use the software to its full capacity and thats part of the problem. I spent a few hours listening to other peoples work and got some good guidance from that. I think the problem of genericism is coming from the drums , I Dont really understand how to make my own drum rack because I dont where to sample the drums from or what effects to use(probably not using the right terms here). Sampling hip hop beats and creating my own drum loops from that and then adding in other sounds to beef it up and add my own charm is easy for me and Im good at it but when it comes to anything electronic I suck and frankly electronic music is the reason I got Ableton in the first place, Its a way expressing myself properly( haha which Ive already explained having problems with) in a way that i feel cant be achieved through hip hop (this of course doesnt apply to everyone), my expressions aren't compatible with hip hop :)

you should be able to find drum samples online or just sample from CDs. I find the thing about drums is layering various samples can give an extra dimension to your single hit. With layes you can control the Eq of a kick with more accuracy as you can have one sample providing the low-end and another for the mid or highs. Subtle fx light light reverb or short delays can give a whole new feel to a sample.
