I heard this goes on in China and maybe someone can shed some light.

Basically a load of gamer's can bet real cash against each other on strategy game tournaments with leader boards and all sorts. You used to be able to do this with chess but now its on modern games like C&C etc. My friend who was in hong kong for two months recently said these guys would be in internet cafe's day in day out making thousands.

I think this could be a new big thing over in the western world where gamers can log in, place a wager that they would beat a certain opponent and win or lose.

The real interesting part is that the money is only one way. Lets say no.45 on the leader board wants to play no.25 and wagers €50. If he wins he gets moved up the board and doesn't lose his cash. The person previously no.25 doesn't get anything so falls down the leader board but can win that €50 if he/she beats them.

The whole leader board thing seems to be the main drive.

Just wondering if any of you strategy gamer's would get involved in something like this with the idea to making some cash for your strategy skills.

I used to play a load of C&C online and be really good at it. I personally would spend my own money to get higher up a leader board and wait for the wagers to come in as I think i'm pretty good with those sorts of games.

    any thoughts?

With go, baduk in Korea or wequi in China, they love to bet. Loads of various betting systems have arisen, allowing for betting between evenly matched and mismatched players (e.g. I say I'll win by 20 points and bet 50c a point either way on that, so if I win by 10 I owe you a fiver and so on (this is usually capped at some amount in both directions and this cap is what's paid if there's a resignation).

There's definitely a lot of scope for this even in very restricted strategy games.
