Reversing camera in 2008 Nissan X-Trail

    Hi lads,

My parents want to install a reversing camera system in their jeep (2008 Nissan X-Trail), and are looking at two options:
    • Buy something cheap (unbranded), such as this, which comes with the screen, camera and connections. Would these be reliable?
    • Replace the whole stereo with a Panasonic/Pioneer etc. system, then buy a camera and connections separately and connect the two. This option will obviously be more expensive, but maybe this could be lowered slightly by selling the factory stereo?

    Any help greatly appreciated!

Cheap monitor and camera off ebay will do the job well.

Mount camera in back window. Then the lense won't get dirty from water spray and road dirt.

Great idea about putting it inside, thanks.

One thing regarding that - it still obviously needs to be wired into the reversing light, does it? Or can you get one that plugs into a cigarette lighter? (we have one in the boot)

Wiring camera to reverse lights can be done easy enough. I didn't bother so mine is on with ignition. I had to run video cable from camera to monitor so I ran power too. I find the camera on all the time isn't a issue and when stopped in traffic I often give it a glance just to see traffic behind.

Not sure about your rear 12v socket but on mine its is powered all the time so I didnt use it.

Take car to one or two auto electrics places locally and let them have a look and give you a quote or two. Might not be so expensive and you'll know it's done by a pro.
