Working while on Jobseekers Allowance

I have been on JA for just over a year now and I've been offered a one day promotional job. I've accepted as there may be future work available with the company until I find a full time position. I'm wondering what the protocol is for reporting this to my local social welfare office? Am I entitled to claim for the remaining 5 days of the week? Also, if anyone has done something similar in the past, was there a delay in being reassigned to JA?

If it is a one off day just call the office and sign off the day, you will be paid for the balance of the week.

If it is a one day a week job you will need to change to a casual claim. You will be required to have the employer to complete a form UP16 in order for an assessment of the deduction (means) that will be applied to your claim for each day you work. If it is this you should call into the office to make this change.

    Good luck with the job.

I was in a similar situation. I'd been on JA for about a month or two, and had been offered a job for two days a week. I went into my local office and explained this. I was then given yellow slips to fill up on a weekly basis and had to drop them into the office every week. I think there's a new system now though, where you have to get your employer to sign a form or something every week. Anyway, I could claim for the days I didn't work. I recently was let go from that job, and I dropped a letter into my local office to say i'd been let go with a copy of my p60, and they sent me a letter within 3 weeks to put me back onto JA again. My first payment was back dated too. So there was no delay in changing from one to the other!

Thanks to both of your replies.

It's just a once off day, so I'll call beforehand and let them know.

Hopefully it will be a smooth process, my experience has been that they mess up paperwork a lot in my local office but I'll be optimistic that it will go well this time.

Ah ok, I get ya. I thought you'd be working one day a week from now on! Sorry! I would imagine it'd be straight forward though. Just give them a call sure and see what happens. Good luck either way :)
