    Hi Folks

After being glued to educationposts.ie the past while, i'm just wondering what exactly is a job share position? I know the hours are split but does this mean classes are split or shared between the two teachers? Or does it vary from school to school?

Best of luck to all those on the job hunt!:)

In our school, we have a lot of teachers job sharing. The norm is that one teacher takes first year maths and the other teacher takes second year maths. There is usually no sharing of these individual classes.

It happened a couple of years ago that teachers were sharing classes and there were alot of complaints from parents and students. Different teaching styles, one teacher teaching trig twice a week and the other teacher teaching sequences etc... It was very messy and not conducive at all. The students were definitely suffering.

I was thinking that alright-it would be a lot of work to ensure consistency in lessons and such..it seems to be becoming more and more common these days looking at the jobs that are available

It's definitely becoming very popular. Personally I think there should be a limit as to the number of job shares in a school. In our school, we have a huge number of job shares and it really does impact on the students learning needs and also the pastoral work that we do. It also makes timetabling every year very challenging as the job shares' timetables are done first.

Needs of students should take precedence in timetabling. This can mean that hours of job sharer can be spread over full week. No guarantees of half days etc

Absolutely concur. Unfortunately it's not always the case.
