    Well lads and lacie's,

A few months back I got my Provisional Licence, I have now All my 12 Lessons complete. As most of you know you have to wait 6 months from the date that your licence was isued until you can apply for your test. I have to wait till the 12th of December 2013 this year until i can. I have a college course starting in september which is not long until then. So i decided that i would try take out insurance if possible. Can anyone send me the right direction on the best way to go about doing that without paying an arm and a leg for insurance. Any suggestions of named driver through my parents ? Please only people who have had experience of being in this situation in the recents years and no smart comments please

I have a 1999 1.3 litre toyota corolla which is a small engine size. It is taxed and tested but the last thing is it needs insurance.

    Thanks In Advance

Hi my son is 19 and wanted to drive, provisional licence like yourself , it was going to be very expensive to get his own policy so my husband got the policy in his name with the son as named driver but as the husband had no no claims bonus ( he has company car ) it was still bit expensive but best deal they got was €1400 from FBD they pay it monthly around €70 per month car is a Renault Clio 1.4 diesel

I just got insured on a 1 ltr Micra for 880 from Chill Insurance. Another place with a reasonable quote was Cullen Insurance.

Most places can give you a better quote over the phone than online.

There is no way to get cheap insurance when you have no driving record, no matter how old you are. The only way to get the best price is to call as many companies possible and then compare the quotes v's benefits. Named driving would require your parents to give up the NCD on their car, along with the false declaration of them being the main driver!, or if lucky they could get a mirrored NCD off their current insurer.

A 20 year old car is going to be hard to insure, most companies don't like anything over 10 years, but if you can get a quote don't value it at less than €4,000. They'll only pay the book value when if you crash but for some reason they load cheap cars when looking for quotes.

You can apply for your test now and when the 6 months is up call the RSA and take the next available date. Fair dues for completing the 12 lessons in 6 weeks .

I got my LP on April this year and I have a 00 Honda Civic 1.4L. I got the insurance under my husband's name and added myself as a named driver. We got it for €392, with AIG through 25plus.ie so if you're still looking for an insurance it might worth a try to go to their website. The only thing is, the quote they gave online is always changing so when you get a quote and you feel it's a good deal just go for it.
