Cost of slatted tank

I need to reduce the size of my yard where the cows stand post milking. The problem with the yard is keeping it clean and i have been advised to sort it in case of an inspection.

I have received a quote of €6500+ vat for a 12'6 x 30 foot tank with slats from a local builder. An additional cost would be a shuttered wall to hold the cows post milking.

I have inherited this problem in difficult circumstances and am new enough to farming. Any advice would be greatly appreciated with regards to the tank, size, cost or other options.

The cows enter the parlour along a kind of raised platform as the farm is on a slope. They exit the parlour, decend 5 or 6 steps to the main yard where they wait for me to guide them along a public road to the fields

I presume that is 8ft deep?
Last time I did a job it was around 200e per foot length for the tank only. Get another couple of quotes, you haven't said anything about steel content or concrete strength or thickness of walls/floor.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

It will take about 20 metres of concrete costing around 1400+vat, around 600+vat for steel, 1800+vat for slats labour will be more expensive than you think as it is a small job most shuttering crews cost the same for smallish jobs as medium sized jobs however it should be possible to get it done for 2K I have not allowed for digging as it depend on what is below ground. In my opinion 5.5K would be a very good price but you would have to watch everything.

6.5K+ vat is not too far off the mark but a bit better could be done make sure the concrete is at least 30N and that it is U-Bar steel that is tied in the floor and walls not l-bar. two sheets of 16X8 mesh for the floor as well.

Where are you located braveheart1. Just got a 73' tank done and slatted for €11450 inc vat. I did a lot of pricing about for that in fairness.

1st are you sure you have to get it done? Is it an issue with sh*t getting onto the road?

Will you need to roof it? How many cows are you taking about? Would you need more in case you ave more numbers

Not quite clear what the problem OP is trying to solve either?

Before spending money it might be an idea to sketch the layout of your yard with a few dimensions and post it on here. Might be another way of solving your problem that lads on here would of come across.
