Would you be willing to stretch to a 1.8? There's great value out there on bigger engined petrol cars.

Avensis, golf, focus, or just splash the cash and get a Porsche panamera!

It all depends on what you want from a car. If it's reliability your after one of these would be a good option.

For 4k you should be able to get yourself into an 05 Avensis 1.6. Plenty of them for sale so take your time and find one with 2 yrs test and less than 100k miles on it and you should get a good few years out if it.

What sort of driving will you be doing? If you are only using it for potting about in with the kids then a 1.6 litre Avensis will fit the bill. If you are doing a lot of commuting or motorway driving then a 1.6 litre Avensis will not be that good on petrol.

An Octavia is worth looking at too:

A 1.6 would be less painful.

A MINI is hardly practical if you are karting two kids around with you.

Would a 1.6 petrol be more economical? I'm not commuting thankfully 20miles per day to work a little extra some weekend's

The avensis can be thirsty at times . They are big cars . Along with the 1.4 Octavias . What about a diesel mark 1 Octavia .1.9tdi . Great cars and go forever on the smell of diesel . A nice 03-04 could be bought , taxed and insured with change left over on your type of budget

Yes but I'd have to tax it that the expensive bit each year

20 miles a day hardly warrants a diesel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 bhd2040

Test drove a 05 skoda octavia today 1.4 Nov very powerful but that is not a priority dor me really once it's economical..... 103000miles 3500euro..... ?

What's your price range OP? Might be room to negotiate

If the OP finds a MINI too small then a 3 door Astra isn't going to be much better.
