    Hi all,
I don't know if many of you are interested in this course, but for those who are,
DIT have been trying to run this part time course for a number of years but have been unable due to lack of numbers. It's that time of year again and they are accepting applications. I've been trying to sit this course since 2009 so I'm hoping this year they get the numbers. Anyone interested?

It says you have to be employed in the aviation industry as an entry requirement so that puts allot of people out, and the fee is a bit much at €1585. Would the subjects be thought to ATPL standard or more like PPL.

I was told by DIT that employment in the aviation industry was not essential. However the course fee is expensive. But most courses are much the same in price , I don't know what they base their prices on to be honest.

What kind of role would this course allow you to do?

    Flight dispatcher.

    Flight dispatcher.

I don't know what that is. According to wiki:
As Flight Dispatchers are the 'unseen crewmember' in an airline, pay is generally much lower then that of pilots, despite being required to have the same knowledge of aircraft systems, operations, weather and air law that a commercial pilot has. Coupled with the high stress of the job, this results in a high burnout rate among Dispatchers and a similar high turnover rate in most Dispatch offices in airlines.

The low pay part would discourage me. It does sound like an interesting role however.

Flight Dispatcher pay is usually lower than that of a pilot but its still a good well payed job. I know for a fact that some companies pay flight dispatchers more than you would earn say as a pilot for a loco operator..
