Daily Running costs of your house

I was looking for a household budget or money forum, but can't find one.

Looking at our electricity bill, including standing charge, PSO & Usage, it comes to a little under €3.25 a day (ex VAT)

Now I firmly believe the VAT should be at a much lower rate since Electricity (or Gas) is not a luxury, maybe 5% or lump it in with the hospitality rate at 9%.

Anyway. €3.25 a day, good or bad ?

I don't think it's too bad if I'm honest, I could probably reduce it by turning off the PC overnight etc, but overall, not too bad for a family of five.

Not going to be that cheap when the winter kicks in.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Paying €30 a week to them to build up credit on the account. Keep it as flat a rate as possible. Already in credit on Gas, Electricity & UPC

The eu tells countries the minimum vat rates can be. For example the eu believes Ebooks are a service and are taxed at 13,5% where as a physical book has 0% vat in most eu countries.

You should go out and take a look at your electricity meter zipping around when the PC is on. If you turn it off overnight it'll prolong the life of the PC most likely and it'll half your daily electricity bill. Why pay silly money to the electricity company for no good reason when you could do with it yourself if you're like most people today.

I could save a lot of money if I got rid of all the hookers. I'd have to buy a new shovel though.

Do you run a server at home or something... why leave the PC on overnight?

€3.25 per day isn't an awful of money to pay for such a vital resource but just because it's relatively cheap doesn't mean it should be taken for granted or needlessly overused.

This reminds me. When we were in college one of the places we lived in included electricity in the rent. The landlord was always a bit of a prick, coming in whenever he liked (no notice at all despite us reminding him that it was illegal) and just giving us hassle over little things. When we moved in there was a problem with the kitchen tap dripping (it was more of a small stream of water than a drip), he said he would fix it but never did and it just got worse. There was loads of other things not working.

Any way, we got sick of him and his crap so every morning we'd leave the kettle underneath the tap with the lid open, then tape down the power switch and head off to college. About a month or so later, he came in freaking out the the ESB bill was through the roof. We just told him it was probably some of the ancient broken electronics he had left us with and never got around to replacing or fixing it. It felt good taping down that switch every morning. Good thing he never found out about it or he would have went ballistic.

Wtf? Why you quoting ex Vat and per day while you are at it??

Most bills are bi-monthly, you could help us by asking if 100 odd quid a month is high a bill for your ESB and also outline if you have Gas as well, simples.

My ESB bill is usually €200 every two months so thats €200 divided by approx 60 each day....that's including vat.

You're lucky you didn't burn the house down

It's usually converting video or downloading something. Have been turning it off every second day now.

Just did :) The whole thing inc VAT (which is actually at 5%) was €222

Just worked out the mortgage is €49.70 a day :(

Daily rate X days in month = monthly rate

ESB bills are less. 52 days is my current one, which if not accounted for makes the bill 20% cheaper looking than it actually is.

Check your bill, you may find you're paying approx 20% more than you think.

You ESB bill will show the days and it varies from just six weeks to 50 days or so, it's never the full sixty days.

That's with the ESB whatever they are now, not a bill paying company.

And don't forget to add the yearly price hikes of about 15-20% from all the gas and electricity companies 2 days before the winter kicks in.

    Cheeky Cúnts

I'm more surprised that the kettle didn't fry up and melt into a puddle of hissing plastic and burn your house down tbh but well done sticking it to the prick.

I think that is high and you should turn off the PC and other devices that you might leave on standby overnight. You will see a big difference
We're a family of five, our bill would be roughly €2.20 day. Our rules in our house is that if there's no body in the room, turn off lights, tv and no standby to be left on. We also have night saver for washing machine and dishwasher and sometimes tumble dryer.
We have standing orders with electric company and telephone company €15 a week goes into each account and l still have credits. This is a great help as we don't have to worry about paying the bill on time, its there. You still have to have DD with them just in case there isn't enough money in the account. Also we DD with Anpost for tv licence which is €13.33 a month which is a help too. Hope this will help:)
