Hi All, Just dug some of my potatoes and a lot of them have holes in them and it looks like they have been eaten by slugs . I cut some of them open but found nothing inside the holes but for one which had a small slug, maybe 3/4 ins long, trying to get out. Anyone seen this before and is there something l can do to prevent it happening .
    Regards
    Liam C.

You can get little critters you water into the soil, nemantadoes or something like that. There's ones for slugs and others for wireworm. Don't know how well they work.

The gardening forum here or gardenplansireland site might yield more information for you.

Teagasc have a downloadable book about veg as well which is pretty good.

If they are slugs they're likely to be keel slugs. I didn't find wireworm did much damage, but when digging over the plot or harvesting I used to squish everyone I'd see, and there were hundreds.
