Public services in Ireland are largely run for political convenience. Concepts such as productivity or efficiency are not considered important.

The other 75% will be recruited from other semi-states/civil service etc etc

They already made a great start appointing Tierney with his vast swathes of international and best-practice commercial experience gained from his 6 years as....city manager of Dublin County Council....

Well in fairness there is a lot of good construction workers and tradesmen, engineers on the live register at the moment, there are a lot of cowboys and crap ones too so as long as they don't hire the cowboys im glad for them.

How long have you been on the dole.. 10 years.. not long enough.. get me someone who has never worked. Then some slob who never worked a day in his life will be putting in your water meter.

I think it's a good idea as it gives the long term unemployed work experience again so they can enter the work force eventually. Studies show the longer someone is unemployed they won't get employed again.
