Yeh saw that this morning. Best of luck to him. Love seeing cross-code players do well. Livin' the dream. ;)

    Possibility for John Hayes?

It makes a lot of sense, particularly for guys who aren't big name stars. The minimum salary in the NFL is about $400k - though there are restrictions on the size of squads for the regular season so he may yet not make it when they cut players after training camps. The salary levels are just so much higher that we might see more players attempt this, particularly as the profile of the NFL has grown in this part of the world.

Players who move are unlikely to be instant successes though - despite superficial similarities they are very different sports. Would be interested to see a top level player move over to see how they'd get on.

He's been bouncing from pillar to post the last year or so, which would usually mean either a terrible personality or a serious desire to get as far as he can as quick as he can. At this stage, though, he could do with settling in one place for a while. If he isn't picked up by the Colts, he could end up turning into a journeyman when a sustained period with one team could do a lot of good.

Not to hijack the thread but on this point of NFL players income. 78% of ex-NFL players are bankrupt within two years of retirement and many before they're 30 - for a variety of reasons.
There's an excellent ESPN 30 for 30 about it for those interested.

Best of luck to Adongo, though! Keep your spending to a minimum, Daniel!

It happens to a lot of sportspeople. They retire young and their incomes often can't match their lifestyles afterwards but they don't adjust. It is crazy to think how many NFL players go bankrupt considering their salaries though.

I'm quite interested in seeing how Okoye turns out for the 9ers. I doubt he'll see anything except the practice squad this year but he could be useful next season if he picks the game up quickly - he's certainly a physical specimen.

The stats across the board are all quite high but I think the NFL might have the highest. I'll need to look back over the documentary for clarification but I think a lot has to do with the lack of player welfare after a player retires. So what happens in a lot of cases is that they will pick up an injury during their career; they are then looked after by their team but the second they retire they have to foot the medical bill themselves or pay ridiculous healthcare insurance rates on no more salary.

Maybe this is a discussion for the off the topic thread.....!
