I have a friend with an 07 Alfa 159 1.8 petrol and it has a small oil leak from cold start.
Its only leaking a few seconds on startup from what appears to be a cap with run-off spout/funnel in the bottom right of the engine.

Any ideas why it could be doing it and if its an indication of something serious?

If it's an Alfa I'd advise selling it, not being smart:cool:

Ridiculous piece of advice. Sell it because its got a small oil leak and happens to be an Alfa. Great idea...

Is the car using much oil otherwise.?
Its common enough for an Alfa to use a fair bit of oil.
1 litre per 1000 miles, is not unknown.

This would be true if it was an alfa engine but it's a gm engine.

Is it the black oil filter cover with the hex on the head above the dead leaf to the right of the manifold?
If so I'd check it isn't cracked from over-enthusiastic tightening.
