Haggling on price for new bike

Generally, is there any room to haggle on price with retailers (in the 750-1100 euro price bracket) or are the listed prices pretty much what you can expect to pay?

I can avail of the bike to work scheme, though I'm not sure if retailers would be more or less open (if any difference at all) to negotiatng with someone who was purchasing through the scheme.

Any haggling tips would be most welcome too!

I spent in that bracket through the BTW scheme at the Cycle Inn in Tallaght last month. They are willing to "deal" but, not on the list price of the bike. Provided you were paying them directly (ie cheque, money order, company credit card) and not with a voucher (ie One4All which take 10% commission approx) they would offer 10% of the value of the bike in accessories of your choosing. Needed lock / bottle cage / pump etc so worked out quite well.

I tried to get the price of the bike itself down in lots of places and the online list price from Trek was standard across the board in each retailer. Most would deal on accessories only, provided you would pay them directly.

There's usually 10% available, as long as you're not using any parasitic voucher scheme for the scheme. If you can get your employer to bypass the middleman and make payment direct to bike shops, you'll get the discount you're entitled to. I know of shops in the scheme that have said 10%, but if you go through the voucher, full price.
