Vinyl Floor v. Carpet

Looking to redo the floor in a 10 x 10 bedroom with either vinyl flooring or carpeting over the current floor. Would there be any massive cost difference between one or the other? We aren't pushed to go with one over the other, but would like to go the cheaper option if there is a significant difference. We're pricing things out this weekend but thought I'd check with any experts out there :)

What are you flooring? Concrete or wood. you may need to put down a layer of beaver board first if going with vinyl, so factor that into your pricing. Carpet and vinyl prices vary wildly, particulary if going for oddments/offcuts - you will need to shop around

We'd be covering wood. We'd probably be looking at the lower end of the pricing spectrum on both carpet and vinyl. Any good suggestions for fair priced shops in the Dublin area?
