    Hi lads

I'm looking to get hold of a steel wheel to use in place of an alloy while its being welded. I'm looking to find out what kind of cars would have come with 5x100 16 inch wheels as standard to make my search in the scrapyard a bit easier..

Reason being I have a decent enough 215/40 tire i can have put on it and work away while the alloy is being fixed. I then want to use this as a spare instead of the space saver.

16x7 seems quite hard to find, would a 6 inch wide rim be ok with a 215/40 tire?

That's a common VAG size of the late 90s early 00's.... In 16" guise might be hard to find though

Yeah its actually a mk3 golf gti!!

16" seems rare as hell though...
15", 17" no bother but no 16's lying about :(

Whatever about the offset but the centre bore is what would worry me as Toyota love making the centres small.... A steelie from an Impreza may be the way to go :)

I used to have an Impreza with ill fitting Toyota wheels, how did I not think of that....

Yeah the VAG hub is 57.1mm, and the toyota only 54.1mm
The subaru is 56.1mm. closer it prob still wont fit...

    got my calculations here http://www.wheelsizecalculator.com/resultlist_wat_size?
If only there were a site that allowed you to work from wheel size to model. It's the same database just working the opposite way!!

Anything based on the VAG A4 platform is 5x100: Audi A3 mk1; Golf mk4; Beetle; Octavia mk1; Audi TT mk1; Seat Leon/Toledo from late '90s to early '00s. Though I think the usual steelie size on those was 6x15. You could always pick up a 16" alloy from one of those to have as a spare.

Sorry haven't been on until now.

It appears some of the Seats (and new beetle) used 16" steelies so im gonna try find one of them at the scrap yard, seems 16" alloys are rare enough too.. 15" or 17" no prob!

If I cant find what i want I'll just pick up a 15" with whatever tire is on it and keep my good tire. My 40 profile 16"s will prob be fairly similar to whatever would normally come on a 15" alloy in Ireland so should be an ok substitute.
