    I just changed over from UPC to sky today and I got a sky+HD box in one room and a SKY HD multi room box in another room. Prior to the installation I
    asked the rep if I would be able to record programmes using my HDD/DVD recorder and he said yes -no problem. Today the installer set everything up but I can only record the channel that I am watching but I cannot set up a schedule of recordings as I used to when I had UPC. I cannot believe that I was assured by the rep that everything would work and now I am unable to record my programmes. I am also horrified to see that SKY customer services
    is not a freephone number so I will now incur a charge when I contact them in the morning. I obviously need to change the HD Box to a HD + box but I'm afraid that it will cost more?????? The reason I changed over to SKY is to SAVE money but it looks like it will cost more.......... I am not a happy camper
    at all :mad::mad::mad:

    The problem is the DVD/HDD recorder has an analogue cable/terrestrial tuner only which is why you were able to record the analogue UPC channels previously. Sky is a digital satellite service and your or any HDD/DVD recorder doesn't have the required tuner. Only a Sky+ box will record the channels you want with a Sky sub.

    Your HDD/DVD recorder will only record the channel selected on the Sky receiver and connected via the (analogue) scart lead or RF 1/2 output.

    The rep was right that it would record but was economical with the facts and the rep got their sale.

    What channels did you normally record with the HDD/DVD recorder when connected to UPC?

    I think there is a "cooling off period" during which you are allowed to change you mind about a purchase - not sure if it is 7 or 14 days (I'm sure someone here will know)

    If you are within that time you could give them a ring and cancel - then see if there is anything they will do for you. it will cost them to collect the box and dish from you.

    With Sky+ you can simply record on the Sky box,this pretty much rendered dvd recorders obsolete.You can always transfer the recordings from the Sky+ box to the dvd recorder at your leisure.I have 2 dvd recorders which haven't been used in a couple of years due to Sky+.

    Well, I contacted SKY and they agreed to give me a second sky+hd box
    but I had to pay €199 upfront for the box which they assured me will be refunded to me within 10 days.I asked for confirmation of that in an e-mail
    but the guy said he couldn't do that so I am really hoping that they will refund the €199 . Have to say , the installers were great guys and came back yesterday with the new box so kudos to them.

    I'll let you all know how it goes.
