    Hi,

I have not been in the satellite forum for a while now so i am not up to date with the current range of boxes and I am looking for advice on a new freesat+ sort of box to replace my sky+ box...

Im ditching sky next month for good so the last time i was here researching i was thinking of getting a Humax foxsat 1TB box to replace the sky+ box.

So would the humax still be the best Freesat+ PVR with 7 day guide, twin tuners etc. or is there a new rival to beat it?

Also, my sky+ box is controlled from other rooms by magic eyes leading back to the RF2 on the box. I take it i will need to get a Triax TRI-LINK Kit?

You would be correct that the Humax is the best of the Freesat+ boxes, by far.

Depends what you want and your budget - if loads of capacity is an issue then a 1 TB Humax is the way. If you don't compile tv series and are on a bit of a budget I'd suggest the Manhattan Plaza HDR (149 quid in uk)

    Thanks for that info...

I had been thinking of the Humax freesat+ with "Freetime" and i do understand the freetime part of thing wont work without a UK IP address which is fine by me as we only run off mobile broadband here... but i am wondering if it is possible to turn off the freetime service on the humax so there is no problem or conflict if someone goes back before the current time on the epg into the freetime epg.

I would have gone for the older Humax 1tb freesat+ but they seem to have stopped producing it and i would be worried about support for it into the future.

I had also spotted the Manhattan freesat+ HD 320GB, but there is a lot of mixed reviews online about it saying that it has a tendancy to lockup/freeze and the about the epg being slow to load... that makes me kinda of wary... but saying that, its a good price.

Im thinking i might go for the humax freesat+ with freetime, but can anyone confirm that the freetime service can be switched off/disabled as we would not be able to connect this to our broadband, never mind the fact that we dont have a UK IP address to access the online services from bbcplayer etc.

I have the older Humax Foxsat HDR, and can vouch for it. It is still on sale and there is a marvellous bit of third party Media and Fileserver software for it as an option. This allows you to stream any of it's recordings to pcs around the house while someone else is watching and / or recording with it, simultaneously. Several pcs could each stream a different recording from it too. You can also alter the main epg to include non-Freesat channels. You can even stream it remotely from the internet and set/cancel recordings remotely too.
The new Freetime box is not capable of any of this.

Pick one up on E-Bay, prices are down.
