Good article - listening to 2FM this evening and I got the distinct impression someone has been adjusting the processor..and not for the better...

There are some interesting points in there somewhere.... It's far too long, far too needy and far too nostalgic for my liking. I understand he wants engineers and sound producers to improve the output on stations but to the untrained ear these things sound find.

Must say some of the best audio I've heard has been in the south east. WLR FM and Beat 102 103 have excellent audio, South East Radio is good too. In Cork, Red FM's audio is very compressed and high on treble, sounds tinny at times. 96 + 103 are alright, although they vary from transmitter to transmitter (96.1/96.4 are much better than 95.8). Radio Kerry's is decent, Spin South West's is exactly what you'd expect from it, loud, clear, punchy and bassy. 4FM's is ok, never seen anything wrong with it altho that is probably limited by the satellite feed they use

actually not really believe it or not, ever hear of the "tune out of a station and not know why" effect? its strange but does actually exist

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

listening to 2FM this evening and it sounds like someone has been playing around with the processing - loud and distorted unfortunately

Good source of info here including the technical tricks used by radio stations to grab listeners

Red FM always sounds over processed and for some reason Newstalk sounds like the levels are too low.

When I tune in in Cork City Centre I need to crank up the volume significantly as its a lot quieter than any other station on the dial.

Newstalk is in mono and the processing also isn't as heavy as other stations. It can be problematic in weak areas because even a little bit of noise is noticable as it's that bit quieter

There's no noise on it, just need to turn up the volume.

When there's a bit of noise on a loud station such as Spin Southwest, its hardly noticable. It's a lot more noticable on a quieter station such as Newstalk
