I don't even know if this is the correct terminology.

I am trying to design my own photography site in html from scratch. I will have a few gallery pages which will look similar to the new flickr layout however what I would like to do is when you click on an individual image the picture enlarges and becomes bigger and centered and the page behind it goes darker but not black if you know what I mean.

Then clicking on the large image again returns you to the original page.

is there a way of doing this in HTML and is it called a lightbox effect ? Or do you have to purchase a specialist app to do this ?

    Cheers,
