To Commute or Not to Commute?

    Hi
Just wondering if any one has any opinions on commuting. Just got called for an interview... for a job I am really interested in ... and having trouble getting into due to lack of experience... Problem is it is four hours away.. from where I live...
Now well say I live in point A- my parents live 2 hours north in point B.. and the job would be 2 hours north of that in Point C...
It is only part time.. and I have another part time job... (flexible) so I was thinking .. if I did get it .. I could rent a room or organise a b and b for one night for the overstay and stay in my parents house for one night if necessary. or use it as a half way stop... ..
or would this be crazy my partner would be living in Point A and my flexible part time job is also there...
I have turned down interview s due to distance before thinking something similar will come up closer but they still haven't..
I don't think the financial gain would be too much from this part time position.. but the experience would be worth its wait in gold also its only a 9 month contract.. so if I was struggling at least it would only be for 9 months with good holidays.. and the position on my cv at the end of it?
    Any suggestions / opinions welcome?

Do you have kids - if not, for 9 months, it would be doable.

Your life would be hell, but in these times, we need people like you to push the boat and make a go of things.

Beyond 9 months, its entirely unsustainable and you'd have to consider your options then.

As well as having accommodation and back up accommodation sorted, you'll need to be prepare yourself mentally - find some routine for exercise. Because of the commute, and the two jobs, you may find yourself crashing in front of the TV when you get home. In the long run, this will make things worse as you won't sleep well and find yourself getting more tired, which is not good for the commute.

The job is only 7.5 hours at 40 euros per hour... I would have to ask them to put these 7 hours into 2 days..(as opposed to a couple over 5 days). so at the least work load wouldn't be for two long.. the planning and preparation would probably take up more time out of work... I have been getting feedback from interviews and they all say I am falling with experience only.. so it looks like I don't have a choice.. I don't have kids but probably will in the next two years.. so it might be best to do this now for the sake of my future career.. i.e. having the experience....

Commuting would be madness. Get them to put the hours into one or two days and if necessary book a B&B for the night.

Even with one day you are looking at 8 hours travel and with two you are looking at 12 hours.

Can you use bus/train for part of the trip, so that you could at least chill out, read or watch a DVD?

Hi thanks for your reply ..
I don't even know if I will get the job.. but I am going to have to say to them at the end of the interview..that if I was successful it would only be practical for me if the hours were put into two days... is this unreasonable to say at interview.. I was half thinking of ringing up asking what the intended hours are before I go to interview or would this be really bad?

I would intend on getting a b and b hopefully for about 25 euros for the duration of the 9 months .. I don't think that would be a problem mid-week in this climate

I think it is a perfectly reasonable thing to discuss at interview - it shows you can think ahead.

I'm curious as to what type of job pays like that, but only offers a few hours per week. :)
