Giant Defy 1

Probably a long shot, but is it possible to find a Defy 1 for close to 1000 euro in Dublin? I can avail of the bike to work scheme (though my employer will only deal specifically with the retailers listed on the site). I don't really have the budget to stretch much above the maximum threshold for the scheme. Any advice on deals you've found for the bike (or something superior for the same price if you like) would be much appreciated.

I could only find a Defy 2 for under a grand when I was looking last year.

Value for money wise it's hard to beat and it is a very good bike. I've found it hard to adjust to the ride I get due to the roads where I live though - can be pretty bouncy!

    I got a Defy 2 for €1000.
The Defy 1 is around €1250 I think.

If dead set on the Defy 1, you could maybe add cash to the BTW scheme cheque.

    I got a 2014 red/black Defy 1 for €1125 yesterday in Dublin, this included 10% discount.
If you go through an intermediary that provide vouchers for the scheme, you lose your discount to them, afaik.

Any chance you could point me to where you picked one up my good man?

No bother, I ordered it on July 3rd, they said it would be in from supplier in UK within 10 working days, it arrived in on the 15th, just had to wait for payment to lodge from employer before I collected.

Would a large sized defy suit someone around 6ft 1 in height. The reason I am asking is that I spotted the defy 1 for sale here in large size only. Its not a bad price probaly the lowest you could get it anywhere

Probably yes, L or if they still make it the M/L. I have a M defy that's about 3 years old, I'm 5"10 and it's perfect for me. A better way to measure though is to measure your leg's inseam. Stand face forward against a wall, legs together. Measure the distance from between your legs to the ground. That's your inseam, you want it to be just slightly longer than the effective seat tube length.

As Darkglasses said, it's more to do with inside leg. I'm 6'3'' with reasonably long legs and the XL is fine at a reasonably high seatpost height. Would be a good idea to head to cyclesuperstore and maybe try out the sizes and then you'll know for sure?

You'd really want to try it. I'm about 5'10" and the M was loads big on me. Gave me butterflies to be a 'medium' in anything :-)

Lovely bike btw, picked up mine yesterday in giant dublin, they had it in in about 2 days.

Cheers guys. I think i would probaly just need a shorter stem and could move the seat forward a little as on my other bike in which I had a bike fit dne the top tube is 57 cm with a stem of 90mm. The top tube on the large defy is 57.5. Also is there much of a difference in the spec can you determine with the 2014 defy 1 or is the only difference the colour scheme, See the link to the 2014 below.

The clour of red and white isnt too bad even though I would problay prefer it in black and red on the 2014 version. You would be seen easier with a white bike though:D

I'm 6' 1/2" and 34" inside leg in trousers. Large was my size when I was looking at a Defy.

Give the lads in giant-dublin.ie a ring, they had a 2013 model in last week they were trying to let go for 999, medium in white. Cancelled order I think.

Did you get one in the end and if so what adjustment was required. I am pretty much the same height and measurement. Did you need a new stem? Also if you got one how do you find the bike.

A lad in cycle inn said he could do defy 1 for 1150 without me even bargaining if that helps
