Cassette and chain life expectancy?

    Starting to slip in the lowest gear is it time to change?
    New chain on since last August about 3000km on that at a guess the actual cassette is on maybe 2/3 years?
    Anything I can look for myself to indicate what's up.
    prefer to know before I got the LBS.
