    Hi all,

I unfortunately have zero fashion sense but I need to find a dress to wear to my graduation ceremony.

This of course is proving to be an absolute nightmare. It needs to be something tasteful and elegant. I really want to be able to look back and say I looked well on one of the most important days of my life.

Would you guys have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance :)

Not sure where you are located but coast have some nice dresses in their sale. Some less weddingy and more elegant if you know what I mean. Always find coast in Kildare village good.
House of Fraser might be good too.

    Hi,

I was recently in Coast but as it's the end of the sale it's been stripped clean and there wasn't anything I liked.

My problem lies more in the fact that I can't tell what to try on, I don't know what kinda style I should go for. I know that sounds silly but I just find clothes shopping really stressful.

Ok well your best bet is go to a shop that does free personal assistant/shopper. I know oasis usually do it and maybe debenhams. Tell them the occasion and let them choose some outfits. You do not have to buy anything but it will give you ideas. Maybe try monsoon.
    Something simple is always good.
    Good luck.

Go for something sleek in shape so it doesn't make the line of the graduation gown look strange.
I get your point re looking back at the photos, something in a classic shape and a colour you love will stand the test of time better than anything very fashionable!
A nice simple top and colourful pencil skirt would be a good alternative to a dress as you would probably be able to use them for work once you have a job sorted.
And get good shoes as they are all that will be visible for most of the photos- wedges or low heels would be more practical than anything very high, especially if the weather isn't great!
Obviously it's all personal choice but I'd go for something like this:
    http://www.oasis-stores.com/caroline-lace-skirt/skirts/oasis/fcp-product/3440091005 or http://www.coast-stores.com/kimberley-skirt/skirts/coast/fcp-product/2133304184 with http://www.oasis-stores.com/sheer-v-neck-t-shirt/tops/oasis/fcp-product/3190370301 and http://www.lkbennett.com/shoes/courts/CCMADDOX002PATENT and jacket http://uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_17,mon_17.10/2930120112

    Really appreciate the advice! :)

I thought of wearing a pencil skirt but I'd rather keep it simple by buying a dress (but I'll def keep the recommendations in mind if I don't find a dress).

I found these dresses on oasis and coast, would any of them be suitable?

I think they all would, just depends on what suits your body shape. One thing I would say is to avoid anything with a collar or an unusual neckline, because they could look funny with the strap bits of the hood. Make sure it's something you're comfortable in! And if you're going to wear the cap, bring a few hair pins, it's impossible to keep it on otherwise.

Sorry for the terrible quality of this pic. I wore something similar to this for my PhD graduation. I felt that I had made such a mess of my degree graduation outfit that I wanted to knock it out of the park for the PhD ceremony.

In my case, the dress was just below knew length, fitted, and I wore simple black leather courts. My robes were bright red, so I wanted to let them do all the talking. Later, once the robes were off, I had a black short bolero/shrug thing to keep me warm

That's actually close to what I was looking for, very sophisticated and mature. I just haven't been able to find it :o
