MkIV Golf Problems

    Hi all,

    I've a MKIV Golf 130Bhp. I've since replaced the car, but before I sell the Golf, I wanted to fix all issues (having a conscience is a pain in the ass! :-) )

    Anyway, I did the clutch last week (it was slipping slightly) and fix a hole in the exhaust.

    There's two things I need to do:
    1. Replace a seized caliper (front left);
    2. Fix the gear selector (sometimes it can be difficult to find first - all other gears are fine).

    I'd like to do these small jobs myself. Is reconditioning the calliper difficult to do? (I do almost all my own car mantainence so I'm handy enough);

    and

    Someone mentioned I need to replace a bushing on the gear selector, while someone else said it just needs to be adjusted slightly. Any advice?

    Thanks in advance for the help lads.
    M

    Don't go pulling apart the caliper yourself.

    Cheaper and easier to go to a breakers and get one.

    Front left caliper is sticky on my mk4 too :mad:

    Asked about a rebuild kit in GSF but they dont stock them, said it would be easier/quicker to get replacements in a breakers

    Thanks lads.

    Saw this video and it looked handy enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HdFdmueLsA

    My friend (a mechanic) told me that it can be difficult to get a good seal on the brake pipe if I get one in the breakers. Is that something I should worry about?

    not at all!!!

    Unless some donkey removed to off the car in breakers yard. If where the pipe seals looks damaged, don't take it.
