Sorry probably been asked loads of times, if a car was first reg in June 08 and your importing it does it still fall into the old cc based tax system, is it only cars first reg after 1st July 08 that are O2 based?

Also when checking the Vrt export I'd be entitled to a 2000 rebate, so does this mean I could trade in the car up north and claim the rebate once I have proof it was sold outside the country?

With cars first registered in first half of 2008, it will be taxed under cheaper option, whether it's CC or CO2.

You need to present a car for inspection in NCT centre before it's exported.
Then you have to export it within 30 days.
Then you need to provide a proof it was registered abroad, and once you present this proof, you will get your refund.

So I suppose you would need to go into deal with NI dealer that he would give you a copy of documentation confirming that car was registered there once this happens.

A Suzuki Swift in registered in March 2008 is on the CO2 tax, 390

If you import the same car now, on engine size tax is 385.

Will this imported car be taxed on engine size then? Don't think so.

It will be taxed under what was the cheaper option in 2008 :)

Ps in 2008, co2 tax was ~300, cc tax was ~330
