Well into the Digital switch over still we are having problems that we hardly ever if not never had with Analogue.
Since the switch over I have had to re scan I don't know how many times , I have lost channels for hours on end and now with the thunder all the channels are coming in pix elated. What are we paying a tv license for come winter its gonna be a nightmare I know it.

The main point was to release the TV spectrum frequencies that Analogue uses for TV and allocate that to the mobile phone providers who can introduce 4G LTE later this year. It was to also provide a better picture and sound quality.

If you are experiencing having to re-scan on a regular basis. There is an issue with the equipment or cabling somewhere. It could be a loose connection on the antenna (if you are using one) or into the set top box. It could also be an issue with the box. Although this is after hours, it may be useful to post a question in Tech->Cable and Digital TV forum. Also include what setup you have (antenna, set-top box or digital TV tuner)

You would think tho that all the problems would have been ironed out before launching. Not had to re-scan in a while more the probs with pixilating not just in one room but all the rooms and not all running off same equipment. There was no such problems before. I am am all for change believe me esp when it comes to gadgets etc but this does become annoying when Analogue was all but perfect

Before winter comes do something about your equipment. I am not having any of the issues you described, I get perfect reception all the time.

You think you have it bad? I don't even have a TV. I just sit there and look at the wall in the evening for hours on end. Boring as hell!

Personally all I think it has done is alienate the ageing population. Anyone who is younger already has Sky or UPC or watch online.

It's really just to fall in line with the rest of the EU.

I'd rather not alienate our elderly, they have it bad enough as it is witbout missing the Late Late.

It's all they have at this stage

I have a poof that I can sit on, so I suppose all I have to do is just turn in another direction. I'm sure he won't mind.

Some very broad generalisations there. My grandmother of her late 70s has been delighted since digital came in. "No more aerials and fuzzy screens".

It's to make it easier for the NSA to know what you are watching. Or at least that's a theory I read somewhere.

Many younger folks have been delighted to extricate themselves from Sky & UPC and given the pressures many household budgets will continue to experience, Freesat & Saorview are a most welcome alternative.

The option won't suit everyone (if you want Sky Sports or Discovery/History channels etc.) but as the majority of my viewing is across RTE / BBC / CH4 /Film Four, it's great to have so many quality channels (including HD) without any subscription whatsoever.

In fact digital is giving them a better picture quality including HD for those old decrepid eyes.

    Release ?

Oh no, the whole point was the gubberment could sell off frequencies for money. €854.6m

The winning bidders will pay €854.6m for the spectrum rights, including €481.7m in up-front fees along with annual spectrum usage fees totalling €372.9m paid in instalments until July 2030. compare that to TV license revenue http://www.gtigazette.com/?p=2914

The better picture and sound are a by product of the compression used. And the compression is used mainly to fit all the old channels that were transmitted separately onto just one channel , and that saves a load of electricity , and you don't need as many masts and you can turn off all the old VHF transmitters.

If picture quality was important we'd have a second MUX and all the channels would be in HD

So it was just a money grab by the state. Conspiracy theorists would point out that it's worldwide too.
