    We have two cars,

Car A - I'm the registered owner but it's mainly driven by the missus as it's diesel & she does milage a plenty, 11 reg bought new

Car B - She's the registered owner, but I drive it pretty much all the time, 05 reg

It's my turn to upgrade next, will probably sell car B privately and purchase a newer vehicle for me to drive but then we will have two cars in the drive & I'd be the registered owner of both

Should we do a change of ownership for Car A to her name?

Is there any need / disadvantages / advantages, I assume the 11 reg will show her as the 2nd owner but with the same address?

I can be a bit anal about have forms & docs proper or am I over thinking things?

    Thanks

I was in a similar situation and was told to swap policies onto the cars we drove the most. Regarding ownership, I have also been told that it did not matter as we were married. Both cars were innocuous in terms of value and insurance rating . Both opinions were from our respective insurers.

I just called the insurers and arranged a midnight swap. Cost nowt.

Why not register the replacement for car B in the wife's name? Then you'd still have one each.

Think I may be a bit OCD :D, yep can do that but still means I'm not the registered owner of the car I mainly drive & she's the same, not 100% sure about any insurance implications, appreciate reply #1, I'm the main driver for insurance purposes on car A but mainly drive car B (insured second driver), she is the main driver for insurance purposes on car B but mainly drives car A (insured second driver)

Swap the policies - so you're the main driver on B, and her on A, and you're all good. No need to change ownership

Can you do that, thought maybe you had to be the registered owner in order to be the main driver insured on the car in question, do they ask that on the insurance proposal form (can't remember) if not, that's grand

Under normal circumstances, you're right. However it doesn't matter for spouses which car is in which name :)
