    I'd highly recommend this one

You might want to give more details though. Budget, skill-level, type of photography, etc.

    do you edit your photos?

do you put them onto an image hosting site and do other things with them?

are you starting to get into photography with different lenses filters etc or do you need a point and shoot?

    ahem its Nikon :D

that seems like a no brainer Nikon is a good brand the best thing is that there are alot of old lenses that you can buy that still fit the current mount which will be great when it comes to getting old lenses for shooting macros.
this review http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond5100/ seems to give it the thumbs up
Strikes me as a good starter dslr.
have a look at similarly priced canon and (i suppose :)) sony

I was in a similar boat to yourself and recently got one of these:

    http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/compact-digital-cameras/fujifilm-finepix-hs30-exr-review-50007695/

Can't recommend it highly enough, it's a huge step up from my old point and shoot but is still very user-friendly. My bro has taken to using it over his EOS 550D because of this useability and the quality zoom and EXR features.

I could see myself upgrading in the long-term because I'm getting the bug now but I'm very happy with it overall as a first step into photography.

    Have a read here: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm

I bought a Nikon D90 about 5 years ago and still love it. I have put a lot of money into glass as I developed and that strategy has worked out fine for me.
