The spiral perm, why didn't it die out in the 80's?

I've always hated the perm, especially the spiral perm, they're often badly maintained and a cheap, harsh blonde colour, so are basically a ball of yellow/white frizz. I've even seen the odd ginger one, which is even worse. Now most of the fashion disasters of the 80/90's have died out with those decades, but not the God awful spiral perm.

So I ask, what is it about the perm that keeps it so popular and why do more appear in the summer:confused:

Maybe when celebs like Mick Wallace sport it; it keeps it in the public eye hence fashionable.

Awkward moment when you think you see a thread named "The Spiral Sperm", think "WTF?!"..click on the thread, read a few posts and realise the thread said "Perm"..
    :pac:

Can't say I've seen anyone with a spiral perm in over a decade. The only perms I see are with very loose curls in short hair on elderly women.
