Cert of Destruction

    Anyone know of a reputable scrap yard in the south county Dublin area that would be able to issue me with one of these? There are a pile of suspect sites online claiming to issue these, but they look rather dodgy...

    I am scrapping a 2001 5 series and it has the guts of a €1,000 motor tax left on it. To get a refund of this a Cert of Destruction is required.

    I phoned up the Motor Tax office and was told they had not got a list, I phoned up the Motor Refund Office in Dublin City Council and they don't have a list, I then phoned up the Waste Management Office in Dublin City Council and was told they don't have a list (after a helpful "have you checked online"...)

    They then recommended I phone up Dun Laoghaire County Council, but I figure Boardsies will be a better bet....plus I don't have to be stuck on hold for the rest of the afternoon....

    Should of added - I phoned southside motor spares (breakers yars) and they told me I would only get one from a recycling company and to call Waste Management Dept in Dublin City Council....

    OP, you're missing a key piece of information which is that the place you're looking for is called an 'Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF)'.

    Armed with this information, Google will tell you what you're looking for.....

    South County authorised treatment facilities.....

    http://www.sdcc.ie/services/recycling-waste/waste-regulations/end-of-life-vehicles

    DLR co. co. says as follows....

    Disposing Of Your End-of-Life Vehicle

    ATFs have been established throughout the country but so far none has been developed within Dún Laoghaire Rathdown. Negotiations to address this situation are continuing at national level. Pending the establishment of Authorised Treatment Facilities in Dún Laoghaire/ Rathdown, car owners wishing to dispose of waste vehicles are requested to directly contact the relevant producer responsible for the vehicle brand, in order to arrange disposal.

    Contact details for Motor Vehicle Producers may be obtained from the Enforcement Section by e-mailing wasteenforcement@dlrcoco.ie or phoning 01-2047954.

    Alternatively, the Council also provides a vehicle removal service for privately registered cars, free of charge. Please visit our Vehicle Removal page for more information.

    Thank you! As I suspected giving the banger to some dodgy crowd can result in a lot of pain;

    Handing over your waste to an unauthorised collector is against the law. A person who is caught doing so is liable to be prosecuted under Section 32 of the Waste Management Act and may be fined up to €3,000 or imprisoned for up to 12 months.

    but that doesn't apply if you sell the car as a car,rather than as waste, and send in the taxbook with the new owners name ...doesn't get your tax back...just a general point
