New computer probems, need help

    Hello,
I very recently bought a new computer, it has been fine and dandy until about a day or two ago where the monitor would just turn black after a while of usage and I couldn't hear anything coming from the speakers which made me turn it off and turn it on again and then it'd work again. This only happened like once a day but now I can barely keep the computer on for 20 minutes before the screen goes black and there's no sound monitor shows a message of no signal.
The sound doesn't come from the monitor, I've got some speakers plugged into the motherboard.
I've checked my temps while gaming, the GPU reaches max 75 degrees celcius and the CPU reaches a max of 70 degrees celcius.
I've had to use a DVI-I 24+5 pin male to VGA female converter adapter for my monitor as well
Now all I'm getting is a black screen, I can't even get as far as the BIOS. All the fans in the case (CPU,PSU, GPU) are spinning though.
I bought this all from hardewareversand, should I email them and tell them that it's faulty (assuming it is)?

    My specs are
    AMD FX-6300
    PowerColor PCS+ HD7870 Myst. Edition 2GB GDDR5(UEFI READY)
    8GB ram
be quiet! SYSTEM POWER 7 400W
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 1000GB, SATA 6Gb/s
    ASRock 970 Extreme4, AM3+, ATX
    AOC N20W (Monitor)
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does this happen while using the pc or when you leave it idle.

It could be a problem waking up from hibernation.

It happens while I use it

I managed to borrow a gt240 from a friend, but I am still encountering the same problem. I boot it up but my monitor stays black and it says "No signal"

Are you able to use it at all now? Does the PC stay on when the screen goes blank?I had a similar problem, turned out to be the asrock pro 4 board I was using,it needed a bios update. The card was fine but was not even showing up in the bios when it wouldnt work. The bios update was listed as improving gpu compatibility.
Have you updated the bios since you got the pc?

I was able to use the onboard graphics to do the bios up date though, not sure if you have that.

I think it's on, at least the fans are spinning. I can't really get into the BIOS though, I power the computer and the screen stays black with just the "No Signal" message. I don't know if I've updated the BIOS or not though I've tried resetting it though, but it hasn't helped.

Ye i reckon if the fans are spinning its still on,mine was doing something very similar. Im not sure how you can check you bios version if you cant get into the bios though. I just had a quick look and cant see it printed on the box for my motherboard, although i think it is specified on the actual board somewhere.

Have you tried re seating the card in the PCIe slot?

EDIT: This is the bios version i had to update to,my version was 1.5 i think:

    1.80 6/27/2012 Windows® 4.76MB 1. Improve discrete VGA card vBIOS compatibility.
    2. Update CPU code.
    3. Improve Internet flash.

The date for this update is last year though,so you board may already have it and it could be something else

Yeah, I've tried reseating the GPU on all the available slots, no change.

I see your on tomshardware,it has a list of steps to try for your problem. No harm working your way down the list. Might help eliminate a few things if nothing else:

I just found out that there's a system speaker I need to plug in after reading that thread. So I have now, with both of my ram sticks in I got 5 beeps, with 1 out and one in I'm getting three beeps(I think I'm just not putting the ram stick in properly since according to my google skills that's just a memory problem) when they were in properly, 5 beeps.
    Now according to http://forums.pureoverclock.com/general-hardware/3935-motherboard-beep-codes.html

    "5 Short Beeps.
Your motherboard is complaining. Try reseating the memory and rebooting. If that doesn't help, you should consider another motherboard. You could probably get away with just replacing the CPU, but that's not too cost-effective. Its just time to upgrade!"

So I guess I'm having a motherboard problem now?

Shoud I ask hardwareversand and get it replaced?

    I've got two sticks
    1st stick
Slot beside CPU - 5 beeps
Next - Can't get it to go in
    Next 5 beeps
    Last slot - 5 beeps

    2nd stick
Slot beside CPU - 5 beeps
Next - Can't get it in
    Next - 5 beeps
    Last slot - 5 beeps

    Both in - 5 beeps

    Cant slot it in?

    Whats going on there.

I push and shove but it doesn't seem to want to get seated properly on that slot, I don't know why. I'm not using too much strength, I don't want to snap the motherboard

You have the notch lined up correctly ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Chivral

Yeah, got it lined up and all but I can't get it to clip
Ok, I've managed to force it in, same result, 5 beeps when I power it on

I've decided to send my motherboard back. Anyone have any experiences with it? I know you're supposed to print some stuff at their website and then call UPS or something? Could anyone tell me how that works?

Anyone have any experiences exchanging items? IE, I bought a PSU but I want to change it to another one
Can I buy some more stuff and have them ship it back with the motherboard when it's ready without having to pay shipping fees?
