    Hi guys,

I only did a recent thread here but I need an updated one as I know I need a good i5 / i7 as my main game being played will be Rome 2 and as it only uses 2 cores (light threading?) they are much better optimized for the Intel chips.

Will be looking at ordering this asap so any and all advice is welcome and greatly appreciated!

I know nothing about overclocking but I certainly want to get faster speeds. I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction.

    1. What is your budget? Roughly €800 - €900

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming, bit of video editing and storing music, videos etc.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes, unfortunately

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? No will get my own

5a. If yes, what size do you need. -

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? Have a 17" laptop at the moment

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? I'll look after a mouse and keyboard myself.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Sure, why not.

    8. How can you pay? Debit card / Bank transfer

    9. When are you purchasing? Next 2 weeks

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Dublin West

Thanks again for all info I really appreciate it!

Rome 2 is definitely on my to play list, I haven't read much about it, where did you read it would only be optimised for 2 cores?

If that is indeed the case, you're looking for a 3570k/Z77Pro3/Hyper212 build.

If I remember correctly I read it on a post on the official Total War forums. They were discussing which builds would suit best for the game and I remember there was a lot of talk that all Total War games are optimised for 2 cores and are much better optimised with Intel chips (even when you start any of the Total War games usually a "Runs great on i7" or "Runs great with Intel chips" comes up!

They aren't optimised to run better on Intel chips, it just so happens that Intel chips are faster per core.

In any case, I'm sure someone will be along to spec a build shortly. I am on a phone at work so it's simply too awkward :/

Guys will be ordering this soon; would it be possible for someone do me up a build for €1000 max using details above? I'm pulling my hair out deciding what to do and don't want to buy a pre-made rip off!

    Thanks for the help!

Thanks so much for putting that together for me, how does my build above compare to your one? Would the one I put together be ok?

The board and cpu in your build are incompatible.

I don't see any graphics card in your build.

The 3570k overclocked with a 212 evo would perform around the same as the 4670k with it. I'd expect clocks of around 4.5-4.6ghz with the 3570k and maybe 4.2 - 4.3ghz with the 4670k. The 3570k is cheaper.

Do you really need a blu ray burner? There are lots of issues with DRM protection and blu ray drives for pc's. It's not worth the hassle.

The case isn't very good and will lead to higher temps, more noise and less overclocking potential.

Oh sorry must have left out the graphics card by mistake!

    Its an EVGA GeForce GTX 760 SuperClocked, 2GB DDR5, PCI-Express for €241.40!

I just wanted a normal blu ray drive I don't know if that's correct or not!

Ok so taking into your suggestions I need a better case first off. I'm looking at the i5 4670K because it's quite new and I'm not looking to overclock it straight away. It's a little more expensive but that's ok.

What motherboard would you suggest is the best for that?

The Msi card I suggested is better and cheaper.

A normal blu ray drive would be about half that price. That's a blu ray burner.

The 4670k only has about 10% more performance clock for clock than the 3570k. The boards and the cpu are more expensive though adding about €30 on to the price. They also run hotter meaning you won't be able to overclock as well without a better cooler which again pushes the price up.

The 3570k, as I said already, will perform virtually identical to it when both are overclocked with a 212 evo as you won't get the clocks as high on the 4670k.

If you want the 4670k anyway then this is the board to go for. It has better onboard sound as well. Out of stock at the moment though.

OK so can you make out the list table thing (cause I have no idea how to do it!) now with the new components please? It will make it a lot easier for me to navigate the pages on Hardwareversand website!:

    - i5 4670K
    - MSi Card 2GB TwinFrozr
    - The better case
    - The MSI motherboard
    - 2 TB HDD
    - your 212
    - a cheap Blu Ray player
    - windows 8 64bit
    - 8 GB RAM
    - power supply

And we shall see what it looks like at that:) Thanks again for the help BloodBath you are an invaluable resource!

Any reason that you're going or the evga card that costs €24 more and is lower clocked?

The script for making tables is here.

Sorry don't get that board above as well. Wrong link. I've edited it since.

    This is the board.

-edit- I don't think that board exists at all yet. You would have to get the board above it which is the MSI Z87 G45 Gaming. It has sli support so you could add a second card later if you wanted but you would need a more powerful psu then as well.

You can get a discount on your order if you want to get the price down by following these steps.
