Bit of mass hysteria reporting. It's a bad bug but nothing on the scale of c diff or mrsa. It will not be killed antibios with a beta lactamase ring but many antibios don't have this ring.

The crux of this is that the hospital need to increase their cleaning levels as it could be horrendous should something similar happens with c diff or mrsa. Thankfully science is advancing to combat these bugs. But unfortunately bugs are also advancing.

Ah now - they clean them every month O.o
All scopes are examined and cleaned every four weeks.

Unlike the other scare involving CJD there is no excuse here for instruments not being sterile, just not fcukin good enough.

Scopes go through a rigorous cleaning between use & are stored in a sterile cleansing solution. They would be uv sterilised/irradiated every 4 weeks.

    would they use autoclave too?

This is some serious stuff. The bug is resistant to most antibiotics. This coming now just after the CJD fiasco.

You want extra outrage with that 'fiasco'?

Depends on the materials in the scope. And bizzarly not all hospitals have autoclaves. Most waste is sterilised off site. Repeated autoclaving can degrade material whereas uv irradiation doesn't.

    Was it a spider?

I'll bet it was a spider.

    Kids don't like spiders.

Crumlin Hospital is actually very clean and very safe and was commended on that in a recent HIQA report which was very critical of many other hospitals.
As an aside my daughter works there as a heathcare assistant and she tells me that she has never seen staff so careful about hygiene, proper handwashing, etc.
A paper never refuses ink but hysterical headlines do not always get borne out by the facts!

The wrong people were notified, according to RTE News...........but sure it's probably being sensationalized if some are to be believed
