Just found a very strange bug in my living room. It looks like a large bee/wasp but with a much narrower and longer head (much like a horsefly). It has black and orange bands on its back. Never seen this before! Any ideas?

Just to add to that, it is a flying insect with wings, again much like a bee/wasp. Cheers.

    Is it a burying beetle?

If so, be sure to record it on biodiversity.ie - beetles are a very underrecorded group in Ireland, except for ground beetles.

    Hi Aidoh.

Looks like the very thing. Do they fly?

They do indeed. They look like bees when they do.
Where abouts are you in Ireland, if you don't mind me asking?
